Description:

ILL student assistants perform numerous procedures associated with interlibrary lending and borrowing and in-library services for SUU faculty, staff, students and community members. Procedures include, but are not limited to:

  • Retrieval of items from stacks
  • Checking out loans in the integrated library system
  • Processing and updating lending/borrowing requests in ILLiad
  • Preparing loans for shipment including the packaging and shipping of ILL requests
  • Processing incoming ILL returns
  • Scanning from books and journals
  • Sending articles in electronic format to patrons

Qualifications:

The requirements listed below include the equipment and knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and careful organization highly desirable. Student assistants are provided on-the-job training in the use of ILLiad, Koha and the KIC scanner.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, self-motivated, detail-oriented, willing to learn, and able to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Completion of LM 1010 with a grade of B- or better is required for employment. May be taken during the first semester of employment if not already completed. Physical Requirements: The requirements listed below include physical abilities required to complete essential duties.

  • Must be able to physically lift and carry approximately 25 lbs.

  • Ability to distinguish call number on spines of books
  • Ability to search and pull books from shelves of differing heights
