Description:

The receiving/delivery clerk is responsible for receiving/postal duties and delivery services. It also includes:

  • Accepting mail.

  • Inspecting (checking delivery content against the shipping invoice or documentation) addresses.

  • Resolving any problems with shipment, delivering materials, equipment, packages/freight to various departments and students on campus.

  • Safeguarding all items during transit.

  • Properly tagging all packages and items.

  • Preparing items for shipment.

  • Storing items in a safe and efficient manner which facilitates access, accountability, and reduces the likelihood for damage.

  • Must work with both University personnel and distributors to address any shipping and delivery issues.

Qualifications:

Must be available to work Summer

  • Close attention to detail is a must.

  • Must have the ability to use shipping/receiving software.

  • Must have strong organizational skills.

  • Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 50 lbs. received on the dock and during delivery.

  • Works well with a team.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills.

  • Handles discrepancies or receiving problems calmly and politely.

  • Exhibits familiarity with receiving and billing procedures.

  • Manages time efficiently.

  • Demonstrates solid problem-solving skills.

  • Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmissions and other light delivery vehicles.

  • Be willing to learn to operate a forklift.

  • Demonstrates awareness of proper postal operations and safety procedures (preferred).

  • Must be enrolled at SUU for Fall 2022 as either a full time or part time student or part time student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs responsible delivery services by correctly identifying supplies, materials, equipment, and packages to be delivered to the University’s administrative and academic departments from invoices, purchase orders and departmental order forms, and purchasing card purchases.
  • Safely loading those items on the delivery vehicle, safeguarding all items during transit, delivering the items to the correct department, and obtaining the appropriate signature for receipt of the delivered items.
  • Accurately documents the receipt of all supplies, materials, and equipment delivered to the University.
  • Performs responsible postal operations duties by ensuring that all packages and freight are tagged prior to delivery, updating other students and staff as to the distribution method, assisting with the receipt of University items, supplies, materials, and equipment, preparing items for shipment/delivery, and storing property items in a safe and efficient manner which facilitates access, accountability, and reduces the likelihood for damage.
  • Practices preventive maintenance of delivery vehicles and equipment by performing spot checks of equipment to determine their working condition.
  • Helps maintain a safe working environment, thus reducing the likelihood of personal injury or property damage, by operating various motor vehicles, light delivery vehicles and a forklift in a safe manner.
  • Knows proper shipping/delivery procedures for transportation of dangerous goods
  • Knows safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials
  • Deliver miscellaneous items to departments and offices on and off campus, including large mail packages, shipping and receiving items, computer printer paper, etc.
  • Contributes to an effective Postal Operations/Receiving operation by performing other essential tasks as assigned.
