Tutors assist students with course material and may also assist students with developing effective study skills and test-taking strategies. Assistance might include clarifying and reviewing class material, working on solutions to problems, discussing the text and other reading materials, or predicting and practicing potential test questions. Tutors bring experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to learning.
The Tutoring Center primarily serves the following subjects: Math, Chemistry, Economics, Accounting, and Physics. Secondarily, applicants should include any courses in Biology, Engineering, CS/IS/CSIS, Finance, Nutrition, History, Psychology, Foreign Language, Philosophy, FLHD, Management, Political Science, etc.
The Tutoring Center is located on campus in ELC 204.
Qualifications:
- Be a current SUU student
- Completed at least one semester at SUU
- Have a 3.50 or better GPA (3.75+ preferred)
- Earned an A or A- in the courses tutored (test out/skip acceptable for some lower-level courses)
- Recommendation of at least 2 SUU faculty members (provide names only, letters not necessary)
- Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment
- Strong work ethic
