Description:

The Student Outreach and Support (SOS) Peer Coach will work closely with the SOS Assistant Director in developing, implementing, and facilitating a wide array of duties and initiatives that support students who intend to withdraw from SUU and support overall student retention and completion efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with students who intend to withdraw from SUU to determine what might be done to help retain this student and/or ways we can improve our services at SUU to prevent similar students from withdrawing.
  • Reach out to students who previously withdrew from SUU, but who indicated they intend to return, to provide a smooth transition back into the academic term or see what might be done to help these students return to SUU.
  • Track and compile data from every student who withdraws from SUU; work with Coordinator of Student Connection and Completion to analyze and interpret the data. Develop programming and initiatives based on the findings to support current and future students and prevent fewer students from withdrawing.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Create, implement, oversee and/or assist with all campaigns as assigned by the SOS Assistant Director.
  • Compile withdrawal data for respective offices as requests come in.
  • Participate actively on institutional organizations and committees; work collaboratively with Student Affairs’ department heads to improve services to students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven self-motivation and organizational abilities to plan and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and families.
  • Outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to diffuse frustrated students and remain calm in tense conversations.
  • Experience working with diverse students, parents, families, and communities.
  • Experience in using Google suite applications (Docs, Sheets, etc.).
