Overview: Recreation Technician Interns will be assisting with various recreation management projects on the Pine Valley Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest.

Responsibilities:

  • Applicants will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring recreation facilities and sites throughout the district.

  • Maintains trails in wilderness and non-wilderness areas including the construction of mountain bike trails using motorized equipment and primitive hand tools.

  • Assists with backcountry and holiday patrols, campground and trailhead maintenance.

  • Work may consist of multi-day backpacking trips to maintain backcountry trails.

  • Applicants will carry up to 50lbs and walk on average 10+ miles a day.

  • Assist in the maintenance and installation of signs, gates, fences and other facilities as needed.

  • Use GPS applications and systems to plot points and surveys for data collection.

  • Communicate with supervisors and dispatch using handheld radios and beacons.

  • Provides information to the public regarding Forest regulations, fire restrictions (if applicable), Leave-No-Trace ethics and recreation opportunities.

  • Conduct fleet and equipment inspections regularly.

  • Utilize ATV/UTVs as needed.

Qualifications:

  • All are encouraged to apply.

  • Must be minimum 18 years old.
