Overview

The Park Data project provides visitor use management solutions for multiple national parks and other land management agencies through technology enhanced data collection. The selected intern will work as a Backend Full-Stack Database and Server Engineer in collaboration with National Park Service Staff and the Park Data project. The primary function of the position is to support the Park Data project in the development of server-side applications, databases, and APIs. There is no housing available for this position.

Responsibilities:

● Designs, develops, and maintains server-side applications using programming languages such as PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, or Node.js.

● Creates and manages databases using SQL or NoSQL technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.

● Develops RESTful APIs to enable communication between frontend applications and backend servers.

● Collaborates with the frontend development team to ensure seamless integration of backend and frontend components.

● Implements security measures to protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access to the system.

● Optimizes server performance, scalability, and reliability to handle high traffic loads.

● Manages server environments running on Linux and Apache.

● Works collaboratively with technology implementation teams and innovators to develop best in industry solutions.

● Other duties and related projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

● Excellent programming skills in PHP and at least one other server-side language (Python, Ruby, Java, Node.js, etc.).

● Strong understanding of database management systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc.).

● Strong familiarity with POST/GET request management and RESTful API development.

● Knowledge of server architecture, scalability, and performance optimization techniques.

● Experience with version control systems like Git.

● Proficiency in Linux and Apache server management.

● Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.

● Strong communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively in a team environment.

● Capable of working independently on assignments with minimal supervision.

● Backend development experience preferred.

● Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) is a plus.
