Overview:
The Cedar City Field Office has one Wild Horse and Burro Technician position available for the summer season. The job will include working with the Range and Wild Horse and Burro Programs to complete wild horse, range improvement, and vegetation related monitoring and project work throughout the Field Office.
Responsibilities:
The selectee will assist the full-time staff with monitoring, data collection, project work, and Herd Management throughout the Field Office. Additionally, the selectee will gain experience with NEPA by assisting to write Herd Management and Gather Plans. Position responsibilities include the following:
- Assist with the development of Herd Management Area and Gather Plans
- Assist with documentation, record keeping, and file management
- Conduct water source condition monitoring
- Conduct vegetation utilization and vegetative trend monitoring
- Assist in maintenance and construction of range improvements
- Hauling water to wild horses using a goose neck trailer
- Maintenance of wild horse corrals
- Assisting with wild horse trapping and feeding
- Assisting with the noxious weeds program and range program
Qualifications:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working in an outdoor setting
- Experience operating 4x4 vehicles on unimproved roads
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite
- Preference will be given to individuals with trailering and livestock experience
