Description:
The IIC Crew Members work as part of a field crew completing trail, fence and restoration projects across the Dixie National Forest, Red Cliff Desert Reserve, and Kanarra Falls. This position supports the maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation of trails and related recreation infrastructure while promoting resource stewardship and visitor safety. The role offers hands-on experience in conservation, outdoor fieldwork, and teamwork within federal land management agencies.
Responsibilities:
- Perform trail maintenance, including repairing tread, removing debris, and restoring vegetation.
- Identify and remove social trails to protect sensitive areas and improve visitor access.
- Assist with trail and fence construction, rehabilitation, and signage installation.
- Participate in restoration or conservation projects as assigned by crew leaders.
- Work safely and efficiently to complete assigned projects and daily tasks.
- Follow all rules, safety guidelines, and policies outlined in the IIC Intern Guidebook.
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism with team members, land managers, and visitors.
- Camp overnight during multi-day projects in remote field conditions as needed.
- Adhere to Leave No Trace principles and promote environmental stewardship.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to attend and complete all required training alongside fellow crew members.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work 10-hour days outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, outdoor safety, and trail work practices.
- Physical ability to lift at least 30 lbs. and hike long distances with gear.
- Willingness to camp for extended periods with limited or no cell service.
- Flexibility and commitment to teamwork, safety, and program goals.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, environmental
- studies, or natural resources preferred.
