Description:

The Recreation Technician assists in managing and maintaining outdoor recreation sites and facilities on public lands. This position provides support to Recreation Specialists and Park Rangers by helping maintain trails, campgrounds, and visitor areas, as well as monitoring visitor use and ensuring safe, enjoyable experiences for the public. Recreation Technicians play a vital role in balancing recreational access with the protection of natural and cultural resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and improve recreation sites, including trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, and visitor facilities.
  • Monitor visitor use, provide information to the public, and promote responsible recreation practices.
  • Assist with trail construction, signage installation, and facility repairs.
  • Support resource protection efforts by monitoring sensitive areas and reporting issues.
  • Collect visitor use data and prepare basic summaries for recreation staff.
  • Ensure compliance with rules, permits, and agency policies in recreation areas.
  • Provide support for volunteer events, outreach activities, and environmental education programs.
  • Operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment used in recreation management.
  • Follow safety procedures in all outdoor work activities.

Qualifications:

  • Must be age 18+
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interest or coursework in recreation management, outdoor leadership, natural resources,or related fields.
  • Ability to interact professionally with visitors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
  • Basic skills in data collection, GPS use, and facility maintenance.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to hike, lift, and complete manual labor tasks.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in recreation management, natural resources, or related fields preferred.

Schedule: Mon-Thurs, 7:00am-5:30pm
