Description:
The Research Assistant supports staff and faculty in conducting applied or field-based research
related to public lands, natural resources, or community programs. This position assists with
data collection, literature reviews, analysis, and report preparation. Depending on project focus,
work may occur in office, laboratory, or field settings. The role provides valuable experience in
scientific methods, data management, and professional research practices, ideal for students
pursuing careers in science, policy, or environmental management.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with data collection through field surveys, interviews, or document review.
- Enter, organize, and verify research data in spreadsheets or databases.
- Conduct basic statistical or qualitative data analysis under supervision.
- Support literature searches and summarize relevant findings.
- Help prepare research summaries, tables, and graphics for reports or presentations.
- Maintain research equipment, files, and documentation.
- Assist with writing or editing project reports, proposals, or outreach materials.
- Collaborate with researchers, faculty, and agency partners on project activities.
- Follow all safety, confidentiality, and research integrity protocols.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest or coursework in natural resources, social science, biology, environmental science, or related fields.
- Basic knowledge of research methods, data collection, and analysis techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in a relevant discipline preferred.

Mon-Fri, 9:00am-5:30pm (may be flexible)
