Description:

The Forestry Technician supports the management, protection, and restoration of forest resources on public lands. This position assists professional Foresters and Natural Resource Specialists through field data collection, forest inventory, and implementation of Silvicultural and restoration projects. Forestry Technicians play an important role in maintaining healthy forests that provide habitat, recreation, and sustainable resource use.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect data for forest inventories, including tree species identification, measurements and stand conditions.
  • Assist in reforestation, vegetation management, and silvicultural treatments.
  • Monitor forest health for pests, disease, and fire risk.
  • Conduct surveys and assessments related to forest structure, regeneration, and ecosystem health.
  • Use GPS and GIS systems to record field data and update maps.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment for forestry projects.
  • Work closely with foresters and resource specialists to support management plans.
  • Promote safe work practices in all field operations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be age 18+
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Basic knowledge of forestry, ecology, or natural resource management.
  • Familiarity with tree and plant identification, or willingness to learn in the field.
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and established data collection methods.
  • Basic skills in GPS navigation, field mapping, and data entry (Excel, GIS preferred).
  • Teamwork and communication skills to work with crews and supervisors.
  • Physical ability to hike, carry equipment, and work long field days.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in forestry, ecology, or natural resources preferred.

Schedule: Monday to Thursday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm
