Description:
The Maintenance Worker provides general facility, grounds, and infrastructure upkeep in support of public land management and recreation operations. This position performs routine maintenance and custodial duties at offices, visitor centers, campgrounds, and other facilities. Work includes cleaning, repairs, and assisting maintenance crews with improvement projects. This role offers hands-on experience in facility management, safety procedures, and teamwork in support of public lands.
Responsibilities:
- Perform basic facility and grounds maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize restrooms, offices, and public areas.
- Empty trash, recycling, and compost containers; replace liners as needed.
- Maintain and stock custodial supplies and report inventory needs.
- Operate small tools and equipment safely, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, and pressure washers.
- Assist with building repairs, trail or fence upkeep, and sign installation.
- Ensure facilities and grounds remain safe, clean, and accessible for visitors and staff.
- Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
- Support seasonal maintenance projects such as painting, landscaping, or snow removal.
- Follow all safety protocols and use proper protective equipment.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+ Must be a U.S. citizen Must have a valid driver’s license Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred.
- Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Knowledge of or interest in basic building and grounds maintenance.
- Reliability, attention to detail, and good work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or in a team.
- Prior experience with custodial, facility, or grounds maintenance is referred but not required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical coursework or related experience preferred
