Description:

The Wildlife Technician supports biologists and land managers in monitoring, protecting, and enhancing wildlife habitats on public lands. This position involves extensive fieldwork to collect data on animal populations, habitats, and ecological conditions. Wildlife Technicians assist in implementing habitat restoration projects, conducting surveys, and supporting research that informs wildlife management decisions. This role provides hands-on experience for those interested in conservation biology, ecology, and public land management.

Schedule: Typically, Monday to Thursday 10 hours days

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise crew members to conduct wildlife surveys and monitoring using established protocols (e.g., visual counts, camera traps, acoustic monitoring).
  • Collect field data on species presence, population trends, and habitat characteristics.
  • Assist in habitat restoration and improvement projects, such as reseeding, invasive species removal, or water development.
  • Maintain and deploy field equipment, including GPS units, cameras, and data loggers.
  • Record and manage field data using digital and paper methods, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Support research and monitoring programs in coordination with agency biologists.
  • Participate in outreach or education activities related to wildlife conservation.
  • Operate 4x4 vehicles or UTVs to access field sites safely.
  • Follow all safety procedures and agency protocols while working in remote field environments.

Qualifications:

  • Must be age 18+
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred
