Description:
The Trail Crew Members work as part of a field crew completing conservation and restoration projects on public lands, trails, fences, campgrounds, and more. This position supports the maintenance, construction, and rehabilitation of landscapes, trails, and related recreation infrastructure while promoting resource stewardship and visitor safety. The role offers hands-on experience in conservation, outdoor fieldwork, and teamwork within federal land management agencies.
Things unique about this location/position
This position is provided through a National Park Foundation Grant and will support trail, recreation, and road maintenance at Bryce Canyon National Park.
Additionally, this position will be mentored by Bryce Canyon's recreation and facilities specialists and will provide training on historic masonry repairs on Bryce Canyon's iconic trails, facilities, and fences.
This position is a full-time, approximately 4-month position based out of Bryce Canyon National Park beginning in August 2026.
Free or reduced-cost housing in the park will be provided during the duration of this position inside Bryce Canyon National Park.
Bryce Canyon National Park and its surrounding regions provide opportunities to experience world-class outdoor recreation, geology, wildlife, and dark skies.

Position Responsibilities:**
- Perform trail maintenance, including repairing tread, removing debris, and restoring vegetation.
- Identify and remove social trails to protect sensitive areas and improve visitor access.
- Assist with trail and fence construction, rehabilitation, and signage installation.
- Participate in restoration or conservation projects as assigned by crew leaders.
- Work safely and efficiently to complete assigned projects and daily tasks.
- Follow all rules, safety guidelines, and policies outlined in the IIC Intern Guidebook.
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism with team members, land managers, and visitors.
- Camp overnight during multi-day projects in remote field conditions as needed.
- Adhere to Leave No Trace principles and promote environmental stewardship.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to attend and complete all required training alongside fellow crew members.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Ability to work 10-hour days outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, outdoor safety, and trail work practices.
- Physical ability to lift at least 30 lbs. and hike long distances with gear.
- Willingness to work for extended periods with limited or no cell service.
- Flexibility and commitment to teamwork, safety, and program goals.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in recreation, environmental studies, or natural resources preferred.
