Overview:
The Resource/Biological Science Technician provides technical support for a variety of natural resource
projects across public lands. This position assists professional staff in collecting field data, monitoring habitats, supporting restoration efforts, and maintaining research or management records. Work may involve aspects of wildlife biology, botany, range management, hydrology, or forestry, depending on project needs. This position is ideal for students or early-career professionals seeking broad exposure to multiple natural resource disciplines.
Schedule:
M-F, some weekends as necessary. PT-3/4 tim Fall-Winter 2026, Full-time Spring-Summer 2027

Position Responsibilities:
- Conduct field surveys to collect data on plants, wildlife, soils, and water resources.
- Assist with habitat monitoring, restoration, and invasive species management projects.
- Use GPS units, data sheets, and GIS software to record and manage field information.
- Support vegetation sampling, wildlife observations, and rangeland condition assessments.
- Maintain field equipment, vehicles, and tools for safe and effective field operations.
- Enter and verify data in databases; prepare summaries or simple reports for review.
- Collaborate with staff from multiple disciplines on resource management and research projects.
- Promote safe work practices and follow agency field safety protocols.
Qualifications:
- Must be age 18+
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Incoming, current, or recent SUU student preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Things unique about this location/position.
- Interest or coursework in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related natural resource fields.
- Ability to identify plants and animals common to the region, or willingness to learn in the field.
- Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and rugged terrain.
- Basic skills in data collection, GPS navigation, and computer software (Excel, GIS preferred).
- Detail-oriented and able to follow established scientific methods.
- Good teamwork and communication skills for coordination with diverse field crews.
- Physical ability to hike, carry gear, and work long hours outdoors.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in biology, ecology, or natural resources preferred.
