Description:
The TRiO Student Support Service program serves 160 First-Generation, Low-Income, and Disabled students. TRIO SSS academic tutors are responsible for tutoring students who enter the lab. Tutors will work closely with SSS coordinators and mentors. Tutors will work 10-20 hours per week on a flexible schedule. Tutors are part of a collaborative team and will be asked to attend a bi-monthly team meeting scheduled around the team's schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Welcome all students who walk into the lab, and have them sign in.
- Tutor students when they ask for it.
- Keep the lab clean. This includes:
- Wiping down tables, chairs, computers, and printers, as well as packing away all used supplies, such as dry-erase markers, whiteboards, scratch paper, textbooks, flashcards, etc.
- Read for DRC when you are asked if you are not already working with a student. You cannot read for classes you are enrolled in or for friends.
- Help students get to where they need to be.
- Wear your name tag during every shift and event/workshop.
- Complete & submit timesheets on the 15th and last day of the month.
- Work hours on weekends are only for school/TRiO activities for which you have received approval to use said hours. The majority of hours will be completed in the lab unless you are helping with a TRiO activity.
- Assist supervisor in projects such as social media, recruitment, or workshops.
- Attend Bi-weekly staff meetings.
- Complete necessary trainings
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have skills in at least one General Education area (Multiple areas preferred)
- Understanding and ability to work closely with students enrolled in the SSS program.
- Ability to be a positive role model for SSS students.
- Ability to show empathy and patience to students while working with them.
- Ability to advocate for fellow students as a team player.
- Ability to work diligently at challenging tasks.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work with limited direction and a lot of creativity.
- Will model appropriate student behavior and understanding.
- Experience working with, or a desire to learn how to work with, persons with disabilities.
- Firm knowledge of SUU’s services, organizations, and clubs.
- Actively engaged in SUU’s activities, events, and other opportunities.
