Description:

Tutors assist students with deepening their understanding of course content by clarifying and reviewing class material, helping students work on solutions to problems, discussing lectures and reading materials, or predicting and practicing potential test questions. Tutors also help students to develop effective study skills and test-taking strategies. Tutors also help the center to run efficiently and effectively. Paid training is provided. Opportunity for advancement to Lead Tutor with solid performance and experience.

Highest demand subjects include: Math (Statistics; Algebra; Calculus I, II, III; Trigonometry), Chemistry, Biology, and Accounting. Moderate demand subjects include Computer Science, Engineering, Psychology, and Physics.

Located in ELC 204. Tutors will also tutor at the SUU Library this year. These convenient on-campus locations makes it easy to work between or after your classes.

Qualifications:

  • Be a current SUU student.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.60 (3.75+ preferred).
  • Be willing and eligible to assist with at least three high-demand courses.
  • Earned an A or A- in the courses tutored (test out/skip acceptable for "some" lower-level courses).
  • Earned B or B+ may be acceptable for some courses only with professor permission.
  • Recommendation of at least 2 faculty members (provide names only, letters not necessary).
  • Excel at working with peers in a cooperative learning environment.
  • Enjoy helping others to learn.
  • Strong work ethic.
