Description:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED IN ESCALANTE, UT AT THE BLM FIELD OFFICE FOR THE GRAND-STAIRCASE NATIONAL MONUMENT

  1. Assist with operation of campground recreation sites and facilities (campsites, parking, fees, occasional cleaning etc.).
  2. Assist with administering site fee program and visitor use surveys.
  3. Assist with patrolling campground. Monitoring and documenting of visitor use, documenting resource /facility damage, water collection and testing.
  4. Provide visitor assistance and/or contact visitors in the field, providing information on the area and recreation opportunities,
  5. Assist in the maintenance and installation of signs, gates, fences, and other facilities as assigned using power and hand tools.
  6. Use Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) ( Training provided).
  7. May be required to wear an SUU IIC uniform.

Qualifications:

  1. Ability to work in remote locations under a wide variety of weather conditions.
  2. Ability to perform strenuous physical exertion including, but not limited to, hiking, lifting, carrying, bending, digging, biking, walking and standing.
  3. Good oral communication skills for contacts with the public.
  4. Background check required upon selection.

Work Environment: Intern will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions (temperatures 45 - 105+ degrees). Escalante is a small community with limited services available.

Living Conditions: Must provide own living quarters.
