Description:

The Graduate Writing Center Consultant will provide writing support to SUU graduate students through tutoring sessions, workshops, and other resources offered by the Graduate Writing Center.

General Duties and Responsibilities

The Graduate Writing Center Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conduct one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions via online and face-to-face appointments with graduate students on their writing projects from varying disciplines
  • Maintain accurate records of sessions
  • Assist graduate students with scheduling appointments
  • Attend and participate in required trainings and meetings
  • Communicate and consult regularly with the Assistant Director of the Graduate Writing Center and with SUU faculty
  • Assist the Assistant Director of the Graduate Writing Center with projects such as marketing/outreach, graduate writing workshops and bootcamps, and others as needed

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience with providing constructive feedback on writing
  • Experience working with adult learners

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Strong writing skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in APA and MLA style
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and dependability
  • Ability to engage with graduate students in both in-person and online formats
  • Access to reliable internet and audio/visual equipment for online sessions
  • Proficiency with essential Google Suite applications

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • SUU graduate student, SUU graduate student with a successfully completed Master’s thesis, or
  • Recent SUU graduate
  • Experience working with adult learners as a tutor, writing tutor, TA, or educator

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency with video meeting applications such as Zoom
