Description:

Assist with the installation and maintenance of the SUU network. This includes:

  • Installing twisted pair and fiber cabling and configuring network equipment.
  • Troubleshoot network problems including issues with routing, spanning tree and/or performance.
  • Network security as it relates to the network itself.
  • Network documentation.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Honest and self-motivated yet willing to accept and follow instructions.
  • Be familiar with network topologies and Ethernet protocols such as TCP/IP.
  • Understanding of different types of cabling and their unique installation and termination requirements, including fiber, Cat 6, and Cat 6A twisted pair.
  • Understand layers 1 through 4 of the OSI model.
  • Have problem solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Work well with other students, faculty and staff.
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Willing to work in dirty and small places.
  • Preference will be given to those available for at least two years, including summers.
