THE COMPASS and Academic Recovery Program is seeking Peer Academic Coaches (PACs) to support cohorts of ~35 first-year students in our Fall 2025 academic support classes. As a PAC, you meet with students monthly in 1-on-1 coaching sessions and serve as a teaching assistant for a face-to-face section of SUU 1050: College Student Success or a face-to-face or online section of SUU 1060: Academic Wellness.

PACs support students to develop habits and skills that promote resilience, confidence, and self-directed learning. Such skills include:

  • Clarifying academic goals and taking practical steps to achieve these goals
  • Building motivation, self-confidence, and accountability
  • Implementing routines for organization and time management
  • Strengthening study skills (i.e. reading comprehension, note-taking, review, and test-taking strategies)
  • Accessing resources
  • Adapting to new challenges

Qualifications:

  • Sophomore status or higher
  • 3.00 GPA or higher
  • Full-time student at SUU
  • Minimum of one semester completed at SUU prior to Fall 2025
  • FERPA training and certification required upon hire
  • Available for on-campus training F 8/22, M 8/25, and T 8/26 (all training time is compensated)
