Description:
Join SUU’s dynamic Marketing Communications team and gain real-world, hands-on experience in video production within an environment similar to an ad agency. This role is designed for a creative and detail-oriented student to work closely with SUU’s University Videographer, contributing to the storytelling and visual identity of the university.
As a Video Production Assistant, you’ll play a key role in capturing and editing compelling video content that showcases SUU’s campus life, events, academic programs, and leadership. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to enhance their skills in filmmaking, visual storytelling, and brand marketing.
This is an on-campus position that will start in July 2025 and will continue through the end of the summer and into the upcoming academic year. Please apply with the knowledge that the position will require availability during the summer months. Availability is preferred for some evenings and required for some weekend work.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with video production planning and pre-production setup (3-point lighting, grip work, audio, etc.).
- Operate mirrorless cameras (Sony FX3 and Sony A7S3) to film university events, promotional/marketing content, and interviews.
- Edit footage using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects to produce high-quality videos.
- Knowledge of the whole Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop engaging visual narratives that resonate with both internal and external audiences.
- Work in a fast-paced creative environment, bringing fresh ideas and artistic vision to SUU’s video content.
Qualifications:
Who You Are:
- A Communications, Marketing, Film, or related major with some college coursework completed.
- Passionate about visual storytelling and creative media production.
- Experienced (or eager to learn) in advanced filming, lighting techniques, and post-production editing.
- Someone with an artistic eye for framing, composition, color, and motion—able to transform raw footage into compelling narratives.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro and After Effects).
- Knowledge of color-grading in DaVinci Resolve (Preferred, but not required).
- Strong understanding of videography and artistic composition.
- Ability to storyboard, script, and execute video concepts.
- Experience with Sony mirrorless camera systems (preferred but not required).
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Drive, Sheets, etc.).
Production Experience:
- Ability to set up and operate video production equipment, including lighting, tripods, and audio gear.
- Comfortable lifting and carrying equipment over 30 lbs.
- Experience in Journalism, Marketing, or Communications is a plus.
- Part 107 Licensed is a plus, but not required.
