Description:

The Student Photographer/Archivist supports SUU’s Marketing Communication team by capturing high-quality photography for a variety of campus needs. These include live event coverage, faculty/staff portraits, promotional campaigns, and special projects. A critical part of the role also includes archiving and cataloging imagery into the university’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to preserve institutional memory and improve content accessibility.

The ideal candidate will be organized, responsive, and adaptable—ready to document fast-paced, real-time events while managing post-production tasks with care and consistency. Applicants must have availability during select nights and weekends and be responsive to scheduling needs coordinated with the supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide consistent, reliable coverage of assigned campus events, including performances, student life activities, and university functions.
  • Deliver color-corrected, properly exposed, sharp digital files within a timely manner to meet office and client deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and orderly archives of all imagery through SUU’s Digital Asset Management system.
  • Respond promptly to emails and photo requests from clients and supervisor.
  • Accept creative feedback professionally and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Maintain professionalism and a positive attitude when representing the Marketing Communication office.
  • Demonstrate dependability in scheduling and attendance.
  • Dress appropriately for each assignment; some events may require more formal attire.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with digital photography (DSLR or mirrorless cameras).
  • Strong skills in Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Availability during evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure in a creative environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Photojournalism, Fine Arts, Communication, or a related field.
  • Prior experience photographing live events and dynamic environments.
  • Advanced understanding of camera operations and manual settings.
  • Advanced photo editing skills in Adobe Creative Suite.
