Description:

This internship is part of the Fall 2025 Professional Internship Program. To be eligible for the program you must:

  • Be enrolled as an SUU student during the course of the internship.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be willing to work 10 to 20 hours per week.

The Outdoor Recreation in Parks and Tourism degree program is seeking an intern for the semester. The ORPT intern will assist with a variety of classes (based on their experience and interest as well as instructor needs) as well as administrative tasks which might include outdoor skills courses (backpacking, climbing, etc...), foundational ORPT courses, equipment/gear organization and management, risk management planning, event assistance, and other tasks as determined by faculty need.

Responsibilities:

May include grading, serving as an additional instructor in skills courses, assisting on field trips, cleaning and maintaining equipment, assisting with set-up of events, assisting with marketing efforts, and may include driving a university vehicle. These responsibilities are variable, and based on both intern interest as well as instructors/program needs.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter and excellent communicator with an interest in developing their skill set and building their resume within the field of Outdoor Recreation programming and administration. First aid training, outdoor skills, and ability to manage risks in the field is desirable, as well as availability for work both during the week, and occasional weekend field trips. The ability to drive a university vehicle is also desired though not required. "
