Description:

SUU Outdoors serves the Southern Utah University students and community by fostering a genuine sense of connection, community, and purpose by creating meaningful experiences and adventures throughout the beautiful southwest and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Climbing Facility Staff are responsible for the day-to-day operations at the Climbing Facility including customer service, equipment rental, equipment storage, and repair/maintenance of equipment.
  • Rockwall Attendants must be outgoing, friendly, and enthusiastic about the outdoors. They must have good written and verbal communication skills, be attentive and patient, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Understand and adhere to SUU Policy and Procedures, as well as CWA (Climbing Wall Association) standards.
  • Supervise check-in and check-out of participants.
  • Enforce all safety guidelines, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor check-out and return of climbing wall equipment.
  • Clean, organize, and inspect all equipment and the climbing facility daily.
  • Monitor and be attentive to the physical and emotional safety of all participants and attendees.
  • Maintenance, inspection, and documentation of all climbing equipment and facility.
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide first-aid when necessary.
  • Facilitate participants and groups on industry standard climbing and belaying techniques.
  • Facilitate and instruct current programs and clinics in climbing, knots, equipment, movement, and belaying.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Time Commitment:

  • Belay certification classes, refreshers and trainings.
  • Scheduled shifts, in-services and meetings.
  • Scheduled classes, programs, and events on the wall during operational and non-climbing hours.
  • May require working weekends and/or holidays. These times may or may not conflict with academic calendar dates.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current Southern Utah University student in good academic standing.
  • Previous indoor or outdoor climbing experience; can climb 5.8 top-rope.
  • Possess at minimum a Level 2 CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor) Certification, or be willing to obtain that certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Understands proper care, use, and inspection of climbing gear.
  • Dependable, trustworthy, attentive, and punctual.
  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with all ages and groups.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in teams.
