Description:

The Museum Programming Coordinator is a dynamic student role responsible for planning, developing, and executing educational programming at the Frehner Museum of Natural History. This role bridges the gap between the museum's scientific collections and the local community by designing interactive, age-appropriate activities. The ideal candidate will cultivate community relationships and manage daily museum operations to ensure a high-quality visitor experience.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and carrying out programming for the Frehner Museum of Natural History.
  • Regularly-occurring programs include Iron County School District Tours, Wonder Wednesday aimed toward K-6 and their families, and Toddler Tuesday, geared towards kids 2 and under.
  • Other programs include SUU student outreach or partnering with local groups in the community.
  • The program coordinator will create activities that relate to the museum’s collection and teach about natural history at the level of each group.
  • This student is also expected to assist in daily museum tasks, including but not limited to: opening and closing, greeting visitors and recording attendance, helping run programs and events, and other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate pursuing teaching, elementary education, or communications
  • Proficient in Google Suite
  • Familiar with Utah CORE standards and lesson planning
  • Comfortable working with the public, especially children
  • Public speaking
