Description:

A Peer Mentor role involves understanding and advocating for students' needs. Responsibilities include managing office tasks and coordinating programs both on and off campus. Additionally, peer mentors work with a small group of students for the full academic year, starting with training in the fall. Their role spans mentoring, assisting with marketing, events, social media, and data collection.

This internship is part of the Fall 2026 Professional Internship Program. To be eligible for the program you must:

Responsibilities:

  • Be enrolled as an SUU student during the course of the internship.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Be willing to work 10 to 20 hours per week.
  • Exemplify a dynamic professional attitude towards our students and provide outstanding service in all our interactions (Live the SUU Way)
  • Assist students in overcoming situational, institutional, and dispositional barriers through advocacy and mentorship.
  • Responsible for tasks relating to the office and the programs we offer are completed accurately, in a timely manner, and coordinating to connect students with various individuals and organizations both on and off campus.
  • Build sustainable relationships of trust through open, interactive communication that anticipates needs.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, patience, and a student-first attitude. Excellent service standards are crucial.
  • Frequent student interaction, including phone calls, emails, and other correspondence, and the monitoring thereof.
  • Be confident in troubleshooting and investigating if a student does not have enough information to resolve their problem.
  • Assist with marketing, event planning and execution, social media, and data collection.

Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment at Southern Utah University
  • Non-Traditional student preferred
  • Ability to overcome challenging situations and preserve confidentiality
  • Excellent communication, presentation, written, verbal, and people skills
  • Computer and word processing skills with efficiency in Google Workspace, Canva, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to collaborate with and be accountable to co-workers
  • Flexibility in adapting to and interacting with different types of lifestyles and diverse backgrounds
  • Organizational, multi-tasking, time management, and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrate a sincere concern for others and their well-being
  • Arrive at each shift prepared mentally and physically to work
