Description:

The TRIO Talent Search Student Success Specialist will work with students at Canyon View Middle School (CVMS), Cedar Middle School (CMS), and Southwest Education Academy (SEA). At CVMS and CMS, the Specialist will work with students in grades 6-8 to recruit, enroll, and engage them in the TRIO Talent Search program through weekly visits during advisory and lunch periods. At SEA, an alternative high school, the Specialist will work with juniors and seniors to support college and career planning and preparation.

During school visits, the Specialist will provide engaging, age-appropriate college and career readiness activities, including short workshops, STEM activities and games, career exploration, goal-setting, and postsecondary planning.

The Specialist will also assist with approximately four college and career day trips throughout the school year, including visits to college campuses, technical education programs, and career sites. Additional responsibilities include recruiting and enrolling eligible students, maintaining participant records, communicating with students and school staff, and supporting other TRIO Talent Search activities as needed.

Qualifications:

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree or current enrollment in a college or university program preferred.

Secondary Education major preferred.

Professional Experience

  • Experience in office support, customer service, education, youth programs, or community outreach preferred.
  • Experience using communication tools such as email, social media, newsletters, or other digital platforms preferred.
  • Prior participation or experience with a TRIO program preferred, particularly Talent Search (TS) or Upward Bound (UB), or current participation in TRIO Student Support Services (SSS).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Basic technology skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, data entry, and digital communication platforms.
  • Ability to learn and use program databases and other technology systems.

Program Support Experience

  • Experience assisting with event planning, outreach activities, or program coordination preferred.
  • Ability to support communication and engagement with students, families, schools, and community partners.

Professional Competencies

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community partners.
  • Dependable, flexible, and willing to assist with a variety of program needs.
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to schools, events, and program activities as needed.
