Theron & Lucretia Ashcroft Endowed Scholarship
About This Scholarship
Donor Biography
The Theron and Lucretia Ashcroft Endowed Scholarship was founded in 2021 to honor the legacy of this beloved couple, who raised their seven children (Anne, Charles, Marie, Don, Kay, Judith, and Susan) in Cedar City.
Theron began his teaching career at SUU in 1939 when the school was still the Branch Agricultural College. During his tenure he taught nearly all the engineering, drafting, math and science classes and also did much of the surveying for the city and community. One of his projects was to lay out the Cedar City airport.
Because Theron taught some of the earliest astronomy classes at BAC, the Ashcroft Observatory was named after him. Theron retired in 1970, but continued to be active in community and church affairs until his death in 1980.
