Bio
Penny Patterson Brown enrolled at Southern Utah University in 1981, as a nontraditional student to complete her bachelor's degree. Prior to this, she had three years of college then took a 20-year break to raise six children and support her husband through his medical training and career. She graduated in 1984 with a degree in elementary education and was a beloved elementary school teacher in Cedar City for 10 years. She loved the small classes, personal attention, and quality of education she experienced at SUU. Penny's family has a long-standing Southern Utah University tradition-she and her husband, three of their children, two in-laws, and several grandchildren are all SUU graduates. She created this fund out of her deep commitment to education and her firsthand understanding of the challenges nontraditional students face while balancing work, school, and family.
