Bio
The Hansen Family has the honor of announcing an annual scholarship in memory of their son and brother, Blake Ray Hansen (5/2/01-2/9/24). The Blake Hansen Foundation will provide funds to a student currently enrolled in the SUU Rotor-Wing program each year, to honor Blake’s legacy and passion for helicopter aviation. Blake was a bright and intelligent young man, who lived and breathed aviation. From the young age of 4, he decided his calling was to fly helicopters and was unwavering in that dream. Blake’s dedication was evident from a young age. As a teenager he became a manager at a trampoline park to save money for flight school, and graduated high school a year early, so he could begin college and flight training even sooner. He attended Southern Utah University, enrolling in their renowned Helicopter Aviation program. Blake was passionate and excelled in his schooling and training and graduated with his BS in Aerospace/Aviation and with a Commercial Rotor Wing License at the impressive young age of 21. He briefly worked as a flight instructor at SUU, before securing a full-time Pilot job near his family’s home in California. The last of his time on earth was spent truly living his dream, flying helicopters at a trajectory that was a testament to his promising career ahead. Blake was hilarious and had a unique, dry humor with a contagious laugh. He was a loving Son, Brother, and Uncle, who always found time for his family. Blake was a christian and patriot, who loved his God and country, and put others first. Outside of aviation, Blake’s passions included the Green Bay Packers, video games, riding dirtbikes, wakeboarding, and golf. His presence and light in this world will always be missed. On February 9, 2024, tragedy struck and Blake lost his life in a sudden helicopter crash due to circumstances beyond his control. Though heartbreaking, his family is confident that he was living his passion and chasing his dreams until the last seconds of his life. The Blake Hansen Foundation is pleased to provide these funds annually at Blake’s alma mater, Southern Utah University. This is a living memory of his dedication and passion, in hopes that others may continue perfecting his craft and never forget his name.
