Civil Design (Face-to-Face)

CCET 3670-01

Course: CCET 3670-01
Credits: 3
Term: Fall Semester 2025
Department: ET
CRN: 30756

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce the student to the world of civil design at an introductory level since it covers a broad scope of information. The student is introduced to civil design terminology, necessary codes, and how to generate necessary but quality civil engineering documents using Autodesk Civil 3D software. The information will be presented in the lecture format. Feedback on all assignments, quizzes, and tests will be given individually on each assignment. The student will be expected to solve civil design problems by applying the newly acquired knowledge. There will be three tests throughout the semester and a Final Project.

Prerequisites: CCET 1040.

Required Texts

For this course, the student will be provided access to AutoCAD Civil 3D through the school computers or VPN access.

There is NO required textbook for this course.

Learning Outcomes

This class's overall objective is to introduce the student to the world of civil design using AutoDesk Civil 3D software. A detailed list of these objectives is listed below:

  • Review of AutoCAD tools and applications
  • Learn the definition and terminology of land development and its basic application in industry.
  • Introduce the student to the Autodesk Civil 3D environment. The following Civil 3D tools will be used: Lines and Curves, Points, Parcels, and Alignments.
  • Introduce the student to the legal and ethical side of civil design.
  • Provide opportunities for the student to learn Civil 3D and how to work in groups, document their work, and present their work.

Course Requirements

The final grade is determined from the four categories shown below. The student will have access to his/her homework, quizzes, and test grades throughout the semester on the Canvas gradebook.
When creating and submitting homework assignments, quizzes, and tests, make sure the student's name and the assignment name are used in the file name. For example, if John Franklin submitted the Module 2 test, the file name should be similar to "Jfranklin Module 2 Test.SLDPRT".

Homework - 35%

The homework requirements and due date will be listed in Canvas. Late homework will automatically be reduced to 70%. After 1 week from the due date, it will be counted as 50%.
No late homework will be accepted after December 1st.

Attendance - 15%

Attendance is mandatory and will be recorded daily. Engineering concepts build sequentially, and missing class may result in significant gaps in understanding. Students should arrive on time and remain for the entire session to receive credit. If an absence is unavoidable due to illness, emergency, or a university-approved activity, notify the instructor promptly and take responsibility for catching up on missed work. Excessive absences can hinder success and may negatively impact final grades.

Tests - 25%

There will be three tests during the semester. There will be feedback on the tests in the comment section of Canvas. Each test will be reviewed, and the student will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Final Project - 25%

In the place of a Final Test, students will complete a Final Project. The student will have to apply all the tools and skills developed over the semester to complete the Final Project.

The following grading standards will be used in this class:
GradeRange
A | 100 % to 94.0%
A- |  93.0 % to 90.0%
B+ |  89.0 % to 87.0%
