1. Group Discussion 20% of your grade Due Saturdays
Discussions provide you an opportunity to critically reflect upon what you are learning, to share this with others, and to learn from your fellow students. Each week there will be reading content and possibly videos to watch that expand on that week’s reading. A few questions will be provided that you will need to respond to by Friday. Your initial post should be a minimum of four sentences. Next you will respond to at least two your classmate’s posts, with two to three sentences each.
Your first response is worth 10 points, the two follow-up posts are worth 5 points each. Please keep in mind this is not a casual response to your friend but a well-thought-out response, using professional language including appropriate punctuation and grammar.
2. Reading Quizzes 20% of your grade Due Saturdays
To help you stay on track with your reading, there will be weekly online reading quizzes on Canvas. Though quizzes are timed (10 minutes), you will be provided two attempts – with your highest score retained.
3. Midterm and Final Exam 25% of your grade: 200 points (2 x 100 points)
These exams will use questions from the reading quizzes and other content of the course, particularly the information found in the discussion section. Questions will be objective, including multiple choice and true/false. Study guides will be provided. Both exams will be provided through Canvas utilizing Proctorio.
4. Interview Reflection 20% of your grade
To help integrate what you are learning in the course, filmed interviews related to sexuality are provided. For this paper, choose one interview to write about, connect it to information in the text, along with information in academic research, and then reflect on what you learned.
5. Sexual Scripts Paper 15% of your grade: 100 points
For this assignment, you will be asked to evaluate your current sexual scripts. Sexual scripts are what you understand to be the meaning and purpose of your sexuality, including how those views developed. Sexual scripts guide your behavior and systemically, your sexual behaviors influence your sexual scripts. Sexual scripts are often informed by your cultural background, particularly your family background. Further, these scripts continue to change, develop, and evolve throughout your lifespan.
A number of questions have been provided on Canvas to guide you in this assignment. You will notice that some questions are more sensitive than others. I would ask that you respond to those that you feel comfortable with but also challenge yourself to answer those things that are a little out of your comfort zone. Your finished paper should be at least three pages in length.
