The course begins in Module 1 with introductions, a review of the syllabus, and an overview of the capstone project. Students participate in a discussion introducing themselves, identifying potential interviewees for their project, and complete a syllabus review quiz.
In Module 2, students practice gathering information by conducting a capstone interview, applying critical thinking skills as they begin their research.
Module 3 focuses on finalizing research directions. Students reflect on challenges and adjustments in completing their capstone research through discussion and submit their first individual progress report.
In Modules 4 and 5, students develop the methodology section of their projects. The first part introduces research methods, while the second part continues this work alongside a progress report discussion.
Module 6 shifts to professional development, introducing self-marketing and e-portfolios. Students discuss the what, why, and how of e-portfolios and create their introductory page.
In Module 7, students draft the results section of their project and submit their second individual report.
Module 8 centers on writing the discussion section, where students learn to communicate and defend interdisciplinary arguments at the undergraduate research level.
Module 9 emphasizes interdisciplinary branding and networking. Students explore the power of networking and practice their elevator pitch to explain interdisciplinary studies to different audiences.
In Module 10, students prepare appendices, tables, and figures for their projects and submit their third individual report.
Module 11 combines leadership theory with practical self-marketing strategies. Students explore leadership styles in discussion and practice uploading project documents into their e-portfolio.
In Module 12, students engage in peer review of draft materials, offering and receiving feedback for revision.
Module 13 brings together students’ academic achievements as they finalize and submit their professional e-portfolios and reflect on the capstone experience.
Finally, in Module 14, students submit their final research paper and present their work in an online discussion board presentation, completing the capstone course.
