Course Requirements

Grading

You can find your official grade on Canvas not Aleks.

This class uses a weighted grading system, as follows:

  • Modules 10%
  • Written Assignments 5%
  • Pie Progress / Time Goals 5%
  • Tests 0% (Used for feedback.)
  • Final 80%
Online Modules

You will be required to complete the ten modules. When the module is due the percentage that you have finished will become your score. It is expected that you have the module 100% complete by the end of the term. Make sure to follow the steps learned in class. To be successful you will need to be able to get the correct answers on your own.

Written Assignments

You will work with a partner daily to complete the work before the end of class. The expectation is that you will help each other out in understanding and learning the material.

Tests

All testing will be in the testing center. You will have access to a laminated multiplication chart, 120 chart combo.

Calculator

Calculators are not allowed. If Aleks believes that you need a calculator to solve the problem, there will be a button to access one. Multiplication charts / 120 charts can and should be used every day. Make sure to practice the problems without a calculator as you will not have one for the tests.

Notebook/Binder

It is advantageous to keep your homework, assignments, and notes organized in a notebook or binder. Daily note pages can be printed from Canvas. This is especially true for your module work on Aleks. You will want to neatly write down most problems and show your steps, in order to really work through and learn the concepts.

Pie Progress / Time Goals

These goals are in place to pace you in completing the course. You should stay ahead of schedule for the best success. If you are meeting the required goals by the due date, you will receive full points for each goal. There is no late work for these goals. Whatever percent you have up to the goal is the points awarded. If you are short, you will need to put in the extra time to ensure that you meet the next goal.

Attendance Policy

This is a Face-to-Face class; Attendance is required, points will be given daily. This class will not be recorded.

Keys to Success and Resources

  • Treat every ALEKS Knowledge Check as the final and do your best without the aid of any outside resources. Any items missed on these assessments will return as needed in the course for you to master.
  • Do your own work. If someone solves the problems for you, it will make ALEKS think you know more than you do. In the end this will cost you extra time.
  • Come to class on time and every day. Class will not be recorded. Attendance will be a big part of your success.
  • You should plan on spending an average of at least 8 hours on Aleks a week. This includes the two lab days and six hours outside of class.
  • Keep distractions to a minimum. This means cell phones, headphones, and other devices should be put away. This will help your brain focus on learning and retaining the information. Especially keep your devices put away during class!
  • Remember that my door is open to you. Please feel free to come by to discuss anything you feel that you need to with me. If you can’t get me in class, feel free to email, come by my office. You are my priority when I am at work, so don’t hesitate to contact me.
  • Use all of the provided resources!
