Course Requirements

We will measure the extent to which you achieve the desired learning outcomes based on your
performance on the assessment vehicles outlined below. Final semester grades are based on how many
points you earn relative to the total number of points available (1,195 points). Below is a brief description
of how grades will be determined - including extra credit.
Weekly Problem Statements (600 points)
 Weekly Problem Statements (50 points each/30% of total grade) You will play various
consultative roles each week. You will be tasked with analyzing a business scenario and
recommending a solution based on the chapter concepts from that week. Your goal is to
identify the core problem, explore multiple alternative solutions, evaluate the most effective
approach to analyze your alternatives based on insights from the course materials, and select
the most appropriate solution with a solid justification. You can use AI to research data to aid
your presentation, but you must cite the source. Please see the rubric for the point
breakdown.
Discussion Boards (200 points)
 Discussion Boards (100 points each/30% of total grade) You will need to post your response
first before you can actively participate in the discussion boards and contribute to the learning
environment. The due date on the discussion board is for your initial post only. The discussion
board will remain open for an additional week so you can participate by responding to the
instructor and your peers. Please see the rubric for the point breakdown.
Toolbox Assignments (200 Points)
 Toolbox (100 points each/30% of total grade) An important component of this class is the
practical tools and ideas that you can take with you into organizations. You are being asked to
identify at least two tools over two assignments - four in total. Your grade is based on your
ability to articulate how you will apply what you have learned; identifying the tool you have
chosen, why you chose it, how you will use it, and when you see yourself using it. Please see
the rubric for the point breakdown.
Quizzes (195 Points)
 Open Book Quizzes (195 points/10% of total grade). There are a total of 17 open-book
quizzes this semester. Each quiz consists of 10-12 questions for 10-12 points total and
corresponds with each of the 17 chapters in the book that we cover. If you miss an openbook
quiz, please don't ask to have it reopened so you can take it. If you miss the quiz, YOU
MISS the points. Open-book quizzes are due each week. There is also a syllabus quiz that is
ungraded, but needs to be completed.
Extra Credit
An extra credit assignment is available in the form of an informational interview. Completing the
informational interview can make the difference between an A- and an A, etc. Please see the Extra Credit
Opportunity module for more information and let me know if you have any questions. The points you earn
from this assignment will be added to the overall Discussion Board grade.

Instructor's policies on late assignments and/or makeup work

Where grades and attendance are concerned, these class policies apply:
Late Grading Policy
All quizzes, toolbox essays, discussion boards, and problem statements will have a 24-hour grace period
from the due date for turning in work with no penalty. In other words, you will be given full credit for
coursework submitted during the grace period. Please review the due dates and the available until dates
for further guidance. I do not drop any scores.
Late coursework will not be accepted. Due to the nature of this course, each piece of this course builds
upon the next. Accepting late coursework would mean that you are not given the same quality feedback to
prepare for the next submission. The only exception is the most dire and serious of circumstances (e.g. the
death of an immediate family member, hospitalization of an immediate family member, or your own
hospitalization, or an approved DRC accommodation request).
Computer glitches, problems with Canvas, forgetting, vacations, etc. are not valid excuses. Please make
sure to submit your assignments well in advance of this final cut-off period. It is essential that you check
that you have submitted the correct file and that file has been uploaded correctly when you submit your
assignments. If you do not, they will not be accepted after the final cutoff date and time. Please do not
email me requesting an extension on any assignment unless it falls under the guidelines listed above.
Discussion of Grades
You can expect to see your grades within 3 days of the due date (including the grace period). I will discuss
grades on individual deliverables up to one week after the grade is given. If you can make a cogent
argument in favor of increasing a grade, I will consider it. After that point, I will not alter grades for any
reason. Also, unless you honestly believe I erred in computing your final grade, please do not email me
after grades are posted and ask for a higher grade. The answer will be no. Moreover, you can meet with
me during office hours or at the time of your choosing prior to the due date if you want to review your
work before submitting it.
Additionally, after the semester, please don't come to me in a panic asking for extra credit to raise your
grade. My question to you will always be, why didn't you show concern about your grade or ask me about
it earlier in the semester? Extra credit is not provided to help you raise your grade at the end of the
semester, so please don't ask. Work hard and put in the time throughout the semester. You are always
welcome to come talk to me about how you can be more successful in the course. I encourage it.

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to visit the Canvas course site on a regular basis. Students should visit the course
site at least twice a week to avoid missing announcements and deliverables.

Course Fees

Content for this section will be provided by the instructor.

ADA Statement

Students with medical, psychological, learning, or other disabilities desiring academic adjustments, accommodations, or auxiliary aids will need to contact the Disability Resource Center, located in Room 206F of the Sharwan Smith Center or by phone at (435) 865-8042. The Disability Resource Center determines eligibility for and authorizes the provision of services.

If your instructor requires attendance, you may need to seek an ADA accommodation to request an exception to this attendance policy. Please contact the Disability Resource Center to determine what, if any, ADA accommodations are reasonable and appropriate.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Freedom

SUU is operated for the common good of the greater community it serves. The common good depends upon the free search for truth and its free exposition. Academic Freedom is the right of faculty to study, discuss, investigate, teach, and publish. Academic Freedom is essential to these purposes and applies to both teaching and research.

Academic Freedom in the realm of teaching is fundamental for the protection of the rights of the faculty member and of you, the student, with respect to the free pursuit of learning and discovery. Faculty members possess the right to full freedom in the classroom in discussing their subjects. They may present any controversial material relevant to their courses and their intended learning outcomes, but they shall take care not to introduce into their teaching controversial materials which have no relation to the subject being taught or the intended learning outcomes for the course.

As such, students enrolled in any course at SUU may encounter topics, perspectives, and ideas that are unfamiliar or controversial, with the educational intent of providing a meaningful learning environment that fosters your growth and development. These parameters related to Academic Freedom are included in SUU Policy 6.6.

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33). You are expected to have read and understood the current SUU student conduct code (SUU Policy 11.2) regarding student responsibilities and rights, the intellectual property policy (SUU Policy 5.52), information about procedures, and what constitutes acceptable behavior.

Please Note: The use of websites or services that sell essays is a violation of these policies; likewise, the use of websites or services that provide answers to assignments, quizzes, or tests is also a violation of these policies. Regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), you should check with your individual course instructor.

University policy (SUU Policy 5.60) requires instructors to report disclosures received from students that indicate they have been subjected to sexual misconduct/harassment. The University defines sexual harassment consistent with Federal Regulations (34 C.F.R. Part 106, Subpart D) to include quid pro quo, hostile environment harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking.
