Course Description

This course provides the FNP student with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patients in the primary care setting. Specific content relates to primary care needs of adults across the lifespan and includes an emphasis on women’s health. It will include screening for, preventing, and/or managing common acute and chronic conditions; health promotion and health maintenance. This course is designed for the student enrolled in the FNP program. Course Requirements

Assignment Outline

Quizzes - 30%
You will have 5 quizzes in this course. Each quiz will consist of 30 multiple-choice
questions and will cover the prior week's content. You will have 30 minutes and one
attempt to complete each quiz. Quizzes must be submitted no later than the assigned due
date. You may use your textbook or notes to complete the quiz.
Case Studies - 40%
Students will have a case study to complete for each body system we discuss in this class.
It is expected that students will answer all questions pertaining to the case thoroughly and
that any reference pages will adhere to APA format.

Final Exam - 30%
Final exam will be comprehensive and include all material covered during the course. The
exam will consist of 100 multiple choice questions. You will have 120 minutes and one
attempt to complete the exam. You may use your textbook or notes to complete the exam.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.
