Course Description

The campus clinical intensive is a one-week live interaction at the SUU campus. It allows the nurse practitioner students to exercise their skills through interactive activities that are not available through online course work. Students will engage in clinical course related activities such as physical assessment practice with standardized patients, case presentations and communication, simulation cases and procedures, wound management and primary care office procedures. The on-campus intensive also provides an opportunity for students to connect to the MSN faculty and other health profession programs at SUU. (Fall, Spring, Summer) [Graded (Standard Letter)] Prerequisite(s): NURS 6630 and NURS 6650 Registration Restriction(s): MSN FNP students only

1) Clinical Proficiency and Assessment Skills: | FNP students will demonstrate enhanced clinical proficiency by actively engaging in physical assessment practice with standardized patients, applying learned skills for comprehensive patient evaluations.
2) Competency in Simulation and Practical Procedures: | FNP students will exhibit competency in handling simulation cases and practical procedures, applying theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios and fostering critical thinking skills in simulated clinical settings.
3) Practical Skills in Wound Management and Office Procedures: | Students will acquire practical proficiency in wound management and primary care office procedures, demonstrating the ability to perform these tasks competently in real-world clinical scenarios.
4) Effective Communication, Case Presentation, and Institutional Connection: | FNP students will develop effective communication and case presentation skills, articulating patient cases, communicating with standardized patients, and engaging in collaborative discussions with peers and faculty during the on-campus intensive. Simultaneously, this experience will provide students with a unique opportunity to establish a lasting sense of belonging to the academic community, fostering a connection that extends beyond online coursework.

Course Requirements


Assessment/Assignment Expectations


Course is Pass/Fail. Credit will be given for the course upon satisfactory completion of learning modules and live pass-off of all required skills. 

Week Intensive Attendance and Skills Pass-Offs 


Our weekly intensive for this upcoming cohort will be from May 5th-May 9th, 2025. All in-person skills must be completed and passed off with a FNP faculty member in order to pass the course.

Late work will not be accepted

Attendance Policy

Each student will be required to attend every day of the week intensive. You will be expected to be in attendance from 0900-1700 Monday-Friday of the intensive. If you are not in attendance for the full time each day, you will not pass the course and will be unable to attend clinical or register for clinical courses.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33). You are expected to have read and understood the current SUU student conduct code (SUU Policy 11.2) regarding student responsibilities and rights, the intellectual property policy (SUU Policy 5.52), information about procedures, and what constitutes acceptable behavior.
