· Philosophy- You will write and present your philosophy of coaching based on the beliefs you have developed during the course of your experience and this class (100 pts.)
· Journal- As the dynamic process of coaching/leadership philosophy development progresses, you will maintain a journal identifying what you have learned, how it influences your philosophy, and why it is important. Journal entries will be submitted and discussed weekly and turned in at the end of the semester. (100 pts.) Please obtain a journal notebook, specific for this use, by the end of the first week of class.
· Reflection/discussion questions- Each unit of study will have an accompanying writing assignment in which you can discuss your personal thoughts, ideas, etc. regarding the topic. (20 pts. Each)
· Team handbook and practice plan- You will construct a team handbook that you would give to your team at the beginning of the season. The handbook will include your basic philosophy and beliefs. General rules and process for conducting team business. Process goals and expectations for coaches and players. Included with the handbook will be a generic practice plan. (100 pts.)
· Group Presentation- A small group (3-4) presentation including media such as PowerPoint, video, etc. will be given. The topic may be anything related to the course curriculum as described in the syllabus. The topic will be selected by the group and approved by me. The presentation should be approximately 30 minutes long and include at least 3 references. References can be articles, interviews, case studies, writings by successful coaches, or anything that accurately adds to the information you are presenting. The presentation will include 2 discussion questions to be posed to the class at the end of the presentation to stimulate a class discussion on the topic. (100 pts)
· Midterm and final test- A comprehensive midterm and final will be given. The test questions will be constructed response/essay questions in which you will be required to address concepts learned in class, relevant to your personal coaching/leadership practice. (50 pts each)
