Course Description

A presentation of statistical concepts of particular relevance to psychologists. Topics include descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, t-tests, ANOVA, correlation, regression, and Chi-square. Co-requisite: PSY 3015-03. Prerequisite: A grade of “C-” or better in PSY 1010, PSY 2010.

Course Requirements

Homework

This is a flipped class. That means you will watch videos of lectures at home, take notes on the video lectures at home, and complete problem sets during class. Your homework in this class is watching the lecture videos and taking notes. Lecture notes are worth 10 points per class meeting; you will show them to Dr. Koenig in class.

In-Class Work

During class, students will work through problem sets for that class meeting. Problem sets are worth 10 points per class and are due at the start of the next class period. You will also show your hand-written lecture notes at the start of class.

Exams (Format)

There are three exams during the semester and a Final Exam. Exams include short-answer essay questions, statistical analyses done by hand, and interpretation of outputs covered in class.

Instructor's policies on late assignments and/or makeup work

Late Assignments
You can submit late assignments—problem sets and lecture notes—until the start of the class that is before the next exam (the exam after the missed due date). You can earn 90% of total points within 1 week of the due date, and 80% after that.
Exams: Policies and Makeups
To maintain the integrity of exams, you must show up on time, no one may start an exam once someone has left the room, and electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited (except calculators). If you miss an exam without an excused absence, you will receive a zero. Make-up exams are given only with documentation of extreme circumstances (e.g., severe illness) or for university approved events (e.g., team sports). The instructor decides what alternate exam/assignment will replace the missed exam. If your Final Exam percent is better compared to your percent for Exams 1-3, its percent will replace the worst percent from Exams 1-3.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is required. Attendance should greatly improve your understanding of the material and performance on exams.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33).
