COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
CITI Training (50 points). You must complete the CITI training and demonstrate competency by including your certificate with your IRB.
Annotated Bibliography (50 points) You will find 5 key peer-reviewed articles pertaining to your research topic. You must provide the complete citation in APA style; summarize the article in your own words; explain why and how you will use the article in your proposal.
Stats Plan (50 points) You will identify the statistical tests necessary for you to answer your research questions and explain why they are appropriate. Time permitting, you can practice setting up your SPSS data file with fake data and: attempt to run your stats; interpret the output. Please note that oftentimes different statistics are chosen once you have collected data. You may violate statistical assumptions, and thus require a different analysis approach and/or you may identify other analyses that will contribute to an understanding of your actual data set.
Chapter Presentation (1 @ 50 points). You will do a power point presentation that highlights the important aspects of the chapter. It is recommended that you involve the audience by asking them how your topic potentially relates to their proposals. You are encouraged to meet with me to go over your lesson plan and to utilize me as a TA.
Final Proposal Presentation(100 points)* Grading rubric is at the end of the syllabus; your poster presentation should be a synopsis of your project. Please note that APA format is not expected in your presentation. Avoid too much text on a slide. Bullet points and figures/tables convey information in a way that is easy for the audience to decipher. Use colors and fonts that are simple and pleasing to the eye.
Poster: See the posters in the hallway as guideline (But only the ones I point out!)
Title slide. States the title (make it catchy!)
Introduction (Topic and Purpose of your Study). This is a synthesis of the literature that introduces the topic of your research and provides the argument for your research question or hypothesis.
Method. This summarizes the methods you will use to conduct the study. This includes descriptions of the a) Participants, b) Measures or instruments, c) Procedures; and d) statistical analyses.
ResultsThis is a projected summary of the results. Tables and figures are encouraged.
Discussion. This slide elaborates on what the projected Results will mean by relating them to the original hypotheses/research questions and the literature that you presented in your Introduction.
Conclusion. This slide states implications for future research, i.e., why it is important for psychology.
