Course Requirements

  • Our interactive classes depend on your consistent presence to run effectively--it’s not only more fun when you join us, it’s more efficient than trying to figure out how to catch up on what you missed.

  • Arrive on time and take care to minimize distractions during class to help us make the most consistent progress.

  • If you will be absent, consult Canvas and communicate with your PAC or instructor beforehand to make sure you understand how to complete any work you will miss by the posted due dates. This is a professional practice.

Ask for clarification

  • Every effort will be made to articulate a clear purpose (why) and task (what) for each assignment. However, if any aspect of an instruction is unclear, PLEASE ASK.

  • A simple, “Wait, what?” is a totally fine place to start.

Schedule support appointments

  • When you expand the Modules page, you'll see that required one-on-one support appointments show up about every three weeks.  Each of these required meetings is scheduled for 20-30 minutes.

  • Pro Tip: Canvas shows the END of each PAC, instructor, or advisor appointment scheduling window, so look ahead now and schedule your appointments early. This gives you the greatest choice of appointment times!

Record extra credit support appointments (optional)

How many Extra Credit Support Appointment opportunities can you find on the Modules page?

  • If these optional opportunities might be of interest to you, click on the Extra Credit Canvas pages to see how they work and why they're a part of our course.
Communicate about your attendance

For most students, most of the time, attending class will look like arriving to our physical classroom and participating face-to-face and with shared digital documents during the scheduled 50-minute period. Our class sessions often involve small-group collaboration, and your consistent attendance is expected. We depend on it to make our sessions work well!

If you are experiencing an illness or other life circumstance that will make it challenging to attend class, communicate with us right away so we can make a plan for how you will continue to participate remotely.

Think critically and act ethically with generative AI

Any assignment completed with the assistance of a generative AI tool like ChatGPTLinks to an external site. must include a disclosure statement that clarifies how the tool was used or which text was generated by that tool. For example:

  • "AI-generated text from Google Bard is highlighted in yellow." or
  • "ChatGPT prompt "summarize the benefits of retrieval practice" was used to create the conclusion paragraph."
You are responsible for assuring that the information you submit based on an AI query does not contain misinformation or unethical content and does not violate SUU's Academic Honesty policyLinks to an external site.. AI tools are powerful, and our understanding of how to use them best is constantly changing as these tools evolve.

If you are unsure about the use of an AI tool, we need you to communicate with your instructor to clarify appropriate use. We'll figure it out together.

Instructor's policies on late assignments and/or makeup work

We are all human. Sometimes we make a strategic decision to prioritize other responsibilities and submit an assignment after a posted "due" date. So, to balance high expectations with grace and flexibility:

    • A "late" assignment is any assignment submitted after the posted "Due Date" but before the posted "Available Until Date".

    • Late assignments will be considered for full credit. However, late assignments may not receive feedback.

    • If an emergency situation made it challenging to submit an assignment before an assignment's "available until" date, please come speak with me as soon as you are able, but not later than 2 business days after the "available until" date.  We can discuss your particular situation.

        • This conversation works best if you propose a plan and explain your thinking.

We fully support accommodations such as extended time or flexible due dates when they are approved through the Disability Resource Center.

    • Did you have an IEP or accommodations in high school but aren't sure if you qualify for accommodations in college? We enthusiastically encourage you to set up a visit with the Disability Resource Center. These fantastic humans look forward to helping you figure out which kinds of strategies and supports will help you learn best.
