Course Description

A general course involving the principles and practices used in the production of agronomic crops. Will cover small grains, corn, legumes, and root crops. (Spring) [Graded (Standard Letter)] Co-requisite(s): AGSC 1115 Registration Restriction(s): Intensive English Program majors may not enroll

Learning Outcomes

Student Learning Outcomes: 

-Students will understand the history and development of crop science.

-Students will gain a general knowledge of the science, art and business of agronomy and crops.

-Students will be able to apply the concepts and principles of modern crop science to applied   situations.

Course Requirements

Grading:     4 tests  -  70%; - tentative dates (1) Feb. 11; (2) Mar. 4; (3) Apr.8; (Final) Apr. 21, 7-9am
                  Papers (see attachment), assignments, memes, etc. - 10%
                         1st meme due Jan. 30st; 2nd meme due Mar. 18th   (see below)
                  Lab quizzes and exercises - 20% 
- because the lab supplements and overlaps with the lecture, lab and lecture scores will be combined. The same grade will be given for both.  
- tests will be a combination of true-false, multiple choice, matching, fill in the blank, short essay 
and math problems. The intent at this point is they will be on Canvas.

Instructor's policies on late assignments and/or makeup work

Course policies and notes:
- Students are responsible for all material discussed in class, whether in attendance or not.  It is your responsibility to obtain notes from missed classes from someone other than the instructor. 
 -Assignments will be due on the days and times indicated. Late papers may be penalized by up to 50% each day an assignment is late. There will be no extra credit assignments. 


Attendance Policy

Course policies and notes:
- Regular attendance at all class meetings is encouraged however, if you are feeling sick, stay home. Get notes from a classmate. The Powerpoints will be available on Canvas and the class will be recorded on Zoom so it can be viewed later. Check with the instructor to get the link.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Freedom

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33). You are expected to have read and understood the current SUU student conduct code (SUU Policy 11.2) regarding student responsibilities and rights, the intellectual property policy (SUU Policy 5.52), information about procedures, and what constitutes acceptable behavior.

Regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), you should check with your individual course instructor.
