The content and procedures used in studio courses are different from those in other academic disciplines, making it very difficult or impossible to follow along outside of class or “make–up” missed meetings. In addition, the collaborative and cooperative educational environment in this course is dependent on the involvement and full participation of every student. Every time you are absent you lower the quality of education for your peers as well as yourself.
1. Missing more than 3 of your scheduled course meeting times may result in a one-step reduction on the grading scale from your final grade. (For example, a B would become a B-). Each absence thereafter will continue to affect your grade in the same fashion.
2. In some circumstances I may accept an excused absence: —such as those due to documented illness, university-sponsored activities, or other legitimate circumstances—may be made up with appropriate documentation (e.g., a doctor's note or official university communication). It is the student's responsibility to inform the instructor before the absence when possible and to make arrangements to complete missed work promptly.
3. Pertinent information is given at the beginning of each class. Do not be late. Three late arrivals more than 15 minutes) count as one absence. The same policy applies to early departure from class.
4. Coming to class without required working materials/ tools for that day results in a late grade for that class period. If you are late and without your materials, you will receive an absence. Materials includes handouts posted to Canvas- PRINT and bring in as working next to your laptop or phone is not feasible.
5. In the event of dramatic and extreme circumstances make an appointment with me to discuss options and alternatives (the definitions of dramatic and extreme are determined by the professor).
6. Critique days are required and, if missed, will result in a reduction of a letter grade for that project.
7. Finals week meeting is also required and, if missed without prior arrangements made, will result in a grade reduction of 1/3 of final grade. (For example, a B would become a B-).
