Weekly Check-ins
You need to schedule weekly virtual meetings with your thesis advisor. These meetings will help you stay on track to finish your thesis.
Proposal
In one page, you will explain your plan for your thesis, including a summary of your topic and how you will conduct your research.
Annotated Bibliography
Familiarity with the relevant literature is critical for understanding your research area. You will create an APA style annotated bibliography, with references and summaries of those references. The annotated bibliography will guide you as you write the literature review portion of your thesis.
2A: Activity: Committee Formation
The MIS Capstone thesis committee consists of three members: the professor teaching this course (who will chair the committee), the program director of the Master of Interdisciplinary Studies program, and one other member the student chooses. You will need to reach out to ask this person to join your committee.
2B: Materials and Literature Search
If you are doing a research thesis, you will need to submit all of the materials you will use for your research, including surveys, questionnaires, and data collection sheets. For an analytical thesis, you will need to continue building your annotated bibliography during this time.
4A: Literature Review & Data Collection
For a research thesis, you will need to collect your data after receiving approval from the relevant entities (e.g. IRB or IACUC). For both types of thesis, you will need to write your literature review section, summarizing the literature relevant to your research area. The literature review needs to be reviewed by the SUU Writing Center, and their suggestions need to be incorporated into the next version of your literature review.
Presentation
You will present your completed thesis in front of your thesis committee (virtually or in-person). The presentation should be approximately 15 minutes long, with 5 minutes for questions.
