Course Description

An analysis of problems and concepts concerned with the distribution of goods from producer to consumer. The course includes survey of marketing research, product planning, pricing, channels of distribution, and promotion. Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to apply foundational marketing concepts to real-world business scenarios and evaluate how organizations create value for customers. Students will also develop practical decision-making skills through hands-on simulation and case-based learning.

Quiz Policy: You are allowed one attempt per chapter quiz.
Late Work: Submissions are accepted with a 5% per-day deduction
No work will be accepted after April 18th. 
Honorlock: Honorlock is a proctoring service that requires students to use a webcam and microphone. Before starting your quiz, you may need to verify your identity and scan your testing environment. Simternship 
The Stukent Simternship provides a realistic, interactive environment where students make marketing decisions across multiple rounds, including research, product launch, pricing, promotions, and distribution. Each round builds practical skills by requiring students to analyze data, allocate budgets, and optimize marketing strategies.
Chapter Quizzes
Chapter quizzes assess understanding of key concepts from the textbook and video case materials. Each quiz includes a single attempt and reinforces foundational marketing principles covered in weekly modules.
Strengthen Your Skills Assignments
These short, applied assignments help students practice specific marketing skills such as segmentation, positioning, pricing, and digital strategy. Each task connects directly to the chapter content and prepares students for simulation decisions.
Video Case Studies
Students choose 10 out of 16 available Stukent video case studies, each highlighting real companies and their marketing challenges. After watching each case, students complete a brief applied assignment demonstrating how course concepts appear in real business contexts.
Check Your Understanding (CYU)
CYU activities provide quick, low-stakes opportunities to confirm comprehension of chapter concepts. These short assessments help students stay on track and prepare for quizzes.



Grading Structure
Your final grade is weighted based on the following categories:
Simternship: 45% of the final grade.
Chapter Quizzes: 20% of the final grade.
Strengthen Your Skills Assignments: 20% of the final grade.
Video Case Studies: 12% of the final grade.
Check Your Understanding (CYU): 3% of the final grade.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33).
