Recording Demos
Recording Demo days are classes where the students will learn about recording studio etiquette, microphones/equipment and also gain experience recording specific instruments such as vocals, elec. guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, DI bass/guitar, violin, brass, drumset, etc... Students must be present in order to get credit for these classes.
Tests: Students will take a test that covers material from the textbook. Questions for these tests will be derived from the Reading assignments. There will also be a mid-term and final test.
Recording Projects
· Project 1 - Solo Artist
This project is a self-produced recording made by each student as the artist/recording engineer. Student will be responsible for song selection, production, engineering, and mixing. This project should be presented to the class on the due date and should include specific elements specified by the instructor.
· Project 2 – Collaborating Artist
For this project, students will act as the studio producer and be in charge of overseeing and managing every facet of a songs production, including: song selection, recording, production, engineering, and mixing. Students should work with each other to help finish each other’s projects. In order to get full-credit, each student should be a guest collaborator on at least 2 other projects in the class.
· Project 3 – Independent Artist Showcase
For this project, students will choose one of their own original songs to record/produce with the idea that it will be showcased on the SUU Thunder-ground radio show. Students should collaborate as necessary and do their best to create a professional polished recording. Students will also be using this song specifically to register with their PRO.
· Final Project – Music Video
Students will create a music video to accompany their Independent Artist Showcase song. They will have access to the school cameras to record video footage for this project and may also use their own cameras and free stock video footage from websites like
https://www.pexels.com/videos/ Students will also conduct a social media campaign using specific ideas learned from the text to promote their song.
There may be more assignments required in this class at a later date.
Students are expected to complete their own work for this class. Plagiarism of any kind will result in the grade of an F for the entire semester.
