Assignment Outline
1. Practicing
You are expected to practice at least 5 days a week using the following guidelines: 1/2 hour of singing practice (voice exercises, technique, repertoire, etc.) and 15 minutes of non-singing practice (diction, translations, character work, song and composer research, etc.)
2. Practice Journal
Before each lesson, you should submit on Canvas a practice journal. Each entry should contain the following:
- Day of the week and date
- Amount of time spent practicing
- Vocal exercises/warm ups used
- Pieces worked on
- Any vocal questions or concerns
If you take 1-2 minutes at the end of each practice session to fill out an entry, it will be easy for you to keep up. Avoid filling in the entire week the day before your lesson.
3. Studio Class
You must attend studio class every Friday at 11:00am. You must perform at least 3 times during the semester, and are encouraged to perform as much as possible.
4. Recital
You may perform a selection from memory in one formal music recital per semester, and dress appropriately for the performance. Music department recitals occur on select Fridays throughout the semester at 12:00pm. Recital request forms can be found
here, and are due in the music office by noon the Thursday before the recital.
