Answer the following questions:
- Briefly summarize the activity
- Synthesize the activity with other areas of psychology and explain how they relate. For example, you may find that the activity relates to Neuropsychology; Developmental Psychology, Adulthood & Aging, Clinical Psychology, and Health Psychology. Try to make as many connections to subfields of psychology and explain why these areas are relevant to the activity.
- Analyze the activity. Why do you think the topic is important to the field of psychology? To the general public?
- Reflect on the activity. Explain your personal and group’s interest in the topic. What reactions did this activity provoke in you and your group members? What did you learn by doing this activity?
Lecture Quizzes (3 @ 25 points = 75 points)
These are based on the lectures, other material provided by the instructor, and class discussions.
Research Article Critique (100 points)- You will do a Psych Lit search on a topic of interest to psychologists. Identify your topic, find one research articles (publication dates no older than 2015) from a journal published by the APA. A list of journals is available from the APA Journals website:
Identify and explain each of the following making sure to provide specific examples from the article:
1. The research question/purpose of the research
2. The relevant literature pertaining to the study (theories; other studies that have been conducted)
3. The hypothesis (prediction) and the rationale for the study
4. The methodology, including: participants, instruments/surveys, and other testing procedures
5. The results and conclusions as they relate to the hypothesis
6. Reflect on the topic/findings. Are there limitations of the study? Do you agree with the findings? Offer suggestions for improvement or further research.
7. Design a related study that you could do on the same topic. Briefly describe the purpose, method, and what you expect to find.
Proposed Career Plan (100 points)-
Provide complete / specific answer (paragraph or bullet point format) to each question:
1. Choose a field of psychology that interests you, and identify a job within that field that you think you would enjoy. Briefly describe the job and why it is a good fit for you.
2. What you would need to do to get this job
a. outline a program of study for a psychology major at SUU; be specific in terms of the classes you need to take and when (include psychology classes you’ve already taken); list any GE classes that you have not taken that you think would complement your psychology major and career choice
b. describe further education and training that may be necessary for your career; Graduate school? Certificates? Technical training. BE SURE TO CITE WHERE YOU FIND THIS INFORMATION (e.g., websites such as the APA.org careers or graduate schools at certain colleges)
c. Identify at least 3 potential advocates to write recommendations for you to further your schooling or apply for a job (Name potential SUU faculty and/or work supervisors that could help you advance your career and explain the reasons for your choices)
3. What could you do as an undergraduate to increase your chances for getting this job?
a. What research practicum, student work, internships would be desirable?
b. Would study abroad be helpful?
c. What about extracurricular activities on and off campus?
4. Explain how your career matches other personal goals (family, children, travel, hobbies etc.)?
