Course Description

This course examines organizational leadership theories and practices specific to global contexts and to cultural differences. Course content may vary based on current world events.  (As Needed) [Graded (Standard Letter)] Prerequisite(s): ENGL 2010 and HSS 1120 and ORGL 3510 - Prerequisite Min Grade: C- Registration Restriction(s): Bachelor of General Studies majors only

Learning Outcomes


By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate synthesis of leadership theories and practices in various global contexts.
  2. Demonstrate synthesis of cultural competence theories as they relate to global leadership.
  3. Develop a project and report on a topic related to global leadership.

Course Requirements

Quizzes


Students will complete multiple quizzes in this course, each consisting of multiple-choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, matching, and/or short answer questions. Quizzes will be based on assigned readings, videos, and lectures. Students will have unlimited time and two attempts to complete each quiz. Quizzes must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to complete the quizzes.

Discussions


Students will participate in 6 online discussions. Each discussion assignment will consist of one short video recorded or uploaded by the student in Canvas and at least two responses to classmates’ discussion posts. Discussions will be based on assigned readings, videos, and lectures. Discussion posts and responses must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to prepare their discussion videos and responses.

Reflections


Students will engage in 6 reflection exercises. Each reflection assignment will consist of one short video recorded or uploaded by the student in Padlet. Reflections will be based on assigned readings, videos, and lectures. Reflections must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to complete the reflections.

Activities


Students will complete 6 written activity exercises. Each activity will consist of a one-page response to a prompt based on assigned readings, videos, and lectures. Activities must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to complete the activities.

Reports


Students will prepare 2 written reports, one on global leadership and one related to their final project. Both reports will consist of a one-page response to a prompt based on assigned readings, videos, and lectures. Reports must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to write their reports.

Presentations


Students will prepare 2 video presentations explaining key points in their reports. Both presentations will consist of a short video uploaded or recorded by the student in Canvas and at least two responses to classmates' presentation posts. Presentations must be submitted no later than the assigned due dates. Students may use texts and notes to prepare their presentations.

Project


Students will prepare one final research project, which they will develop in consultation with the course instructor. Projects must be submitted no later than the assigned due date. Students may use texts and notes to prepare their projects.

DUE DATES: Each assignment shows a due date and time in Canvas. Students are expected to complete all work by the due date. If you have a question about course instructions, please message or visit the instructor well before the due date.


LATE WORK: For each assignment that is submitted after the due date and time, 10% per day might be deducted from the score.

Attendance Policy


ATTENDANCE: Attendance is measured by participation in the course.


EXTRA CREDIT: Make-up work, extra credit, and alternate assignment opportunities are not offered in this course.

Academic Credit

According to the federal definition of a Carnegie credit hour: A credit hour of work is the equivalent of approximately 60 minutes of class time or independent study work. A minimum of 45 hours of work by each student is required for each unit of credit. Credit is earned only when course requirements are met. One (1) credit hour is equivalent to 15 contact hours of lecture, discussion, testing, evaluation, or seminar, as well as 30 hours of student homework. An equivalent amount of work is expected for laboratory work, internships, practica, studio, and other academic work leading to the awarding of credit hours. Credit granted for individual courses, labs, or studio classes ranges from 0.5 to 15 credit hours per semester.

Academic Freedom

Academic Misconduct

Scholastic honesty is expected of all students. Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent (see SUU Policy 6.33). You are expected to have read and understood the current SUU student conduct code (SUU Policy 11.2) regarding student responsibilities and rights, the intellectual property policy (SUU Policy 5.52), information about procedures, and what constitutes acceptable behavior.

Regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), you should check with your individual course instructor.
